Father God, I wonder how I managed to exist

without the knowledge of Your parenthood and Your loving care.

But now I am your son, I am adopted in Your Family,

and I can never be alone ‘cause Father God You’re there beside me.

I will sing your praises – for evermore

Read Ephesians 1: v.1-14

1]       What comes to mind when you read in verse 3 ‘every spiritual blessing’?

2]       In verses 1-14 how many times do the following phrases appear?

‘in Christ’ - ‘in him’ - ‘in the One he loves’

What truth is Paul emphasising through using these phrases?

3]       How is each member of the Trinity involved in the gift of salvation?

          The Father           (v.4-6)

          The Son               (v.7-12)

          The Spirit              (v.13-14)

4]       In verse 5, what does the word ‘adoption’ tell us about the change from our old way of living to our new life in Christ?

5]       The word ‘redemption’ used in verse 7, was usually used in the context of being purchased out of slavery. What additional aspects of our new life in Christ does this word add to the good news of being ‘in Christ’?

Read Ephesians 1: v.15-23

6]       How would you sum up the three things Paul is praying for in verses 17-19a?

7]       In verses 19b-20 Paul goes on to define the power he has just referred to.

What assurance and encouragement can we take from these verses?

8]       Imagine someone who does not go to church asked

What does a Christian mean when they say they are ‘saved’?

What would your answer be?

PRAYER: Using your answer to question 6, and phrases from verses 15-23

pray for 3 people from church and 3 people you know who don’t come to church.
