Today’s ‘Guest Writer’ is Rebecca

Sprouts!!

I know that thoughts are starting to turn to Christmas but why, I hear you ask, is Rebecca writing about sprouts?!! The story starts at the beginning of the first lockdown when I was given some jigsaws for the jumble sale. I decided to give them a try and it is fair to say that I am now quite hooked!! When placing my latest order, I noticed a jigsaw of sprouts wearing Christmas hats! Thinking it would be fun, I decided to send for it. As I opened the box it was fair to say that I thought this choice may have been a jigsaw too far!! The only colours on the pieces were shades of green, red, white & black!! There have been numerous occasions since I opened the box when I most definitely felt like giving up.  I kept pushing it to one side and really felt frustrated because I was making no progress. In the end, I gave myself a bit of a talking to, and decided I needed to see the jigsaw as a challenge (which is currently still ongoing 2 weeks after starting it!!)

A jigsaw is a light hearted example, but life itself can prove to be a real challenge. Especially in these strange and uncertain times. It is really important to never underestimate the challenges that people face in life. Lots of people will tell you “I’m fine”, but in truth may be far from it. That call you make, the text you send, the letter you write-these thoughtful actions can make all the difference. Never underestimate their impact.

In his life on earth, Jesus faced many challenges so he can fully understand everything we experience. From doubts and uncertainties, to worry and pain, sorrow and bereavement, Jesus went through it all. On the most difficult of days, when life feels like an uphill struggle, take comfort in the knowledge that Jesus is always walking beside us. We are never alone.

In the calm times, and the challenging times, Jesus our rock is ever present. Verses from the Bible can provide comfort and assurance for whatever situation we face. Philippians 4 verse 13 says

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”.

 Joshua 1 verse 9 says

“Be strong and courageous, do not be frightened or dismayed,

for the Lord is with you wherever you go”.

Two verses that remind us God never leaves us or forsakes us-when all around us is uncertain, God remains constant.

At the start of lockdown I came across a new song to me. I have shared it with you before, but these words speak to me every time I listen to it. I feel they are particularly relevant now. The song is called ‘My Life is in Your Hands’ -this is the first verse and chorus;

You don’t have to worry, and don’t you be afraid.

Joy comes in the morning, troubles they don’t last always.

For there’s a friend called Jesus, who will wipe your tears away.

And if your heart is troubled, just lift your hands and say;

I know that I can make it, I know that I can stand.

No matter what may come my way, my life is in your hands.

It can be so difficult when you are in the midst of challenges, worries and concerns to see how things are going to resolve themselves. It is in these such times that the words in the verses and the song become particularly relevant. They give us reassurance and hope that we are not alone, and to trust that our lives are in God’s hands.

I will leave you with a quote that really spoke to me when I read it;

“When we put our problems in God’s hands,

He puts his peace in our hearts”.
